EDISON — LGBT activist Barbra “Babs” Casbar Siperstein passed away last night.
“Laurie and I extend our deepest sympathies to the Siperstein family, and Babs’ extended family across the nation,” said Middlesex County Democratic Organization Chairman Kevin P. McCabe. “She was an unwavering force as an activist for the LGBT community and a successful businesswoman in NJ.
“We are sad that she will no longer be with us, but her memory will live on and change the lives of so many children with the passing of the Babs Siperstein Law. I am glad she was able to see it enacted last week.”
“I’ve known Babs for over 50 years, and her dinner table grew larger every year I knew her,” said MCDO Vice Chair Beatrice Moskowitz. “Her home was always open each holiday for men and women who may not have been able to go home to their families, and the heartfelt discussions around the dinner table left you wanting to live your truest self.”
She is survived by her partner Dorothy, two sons, a daughter, and two grandchildren. Her late wife Carol passed away in 2001.
