STEPHEN DALINA

STEPHEN DALINA

MAYOR, MONROE TOWNSHIP

Mayor Stephen Dalina has served as Councilman At-Large since 2011. Following the passing of Mayor Gerald Tamburro in December 2020, he was selected to serve as Monroe Township Mayor. He moved to the third ward with his wife Susan and two children in 1998. Dalina is currently the assistant director for Rutgers University’s Business and Administrative Services. He also serves as a part-time lecturer in the School of Communication at Rutgers. He earned his bachelor of arts degree from Rider University and has a master of library science degree from Rutgers University.

Dalina formerly served as chairman of both the Monroe Township Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Recreation Advisory Board. He is a past member of the Monroe Township Baseball Association Executive Board, serving as League President in 2007 and 2008, the former president of the Rutgers Club from 2005 to 2010, and previously served as secretary, treasurer and president of the Northern New Jersey Chapter of the Association of Records Managers and Administrators.

After being appointed Mayor in 2021, Dalina worked with local pharmacies and county officials to vaccinate over 90% of Monroe’s senior communities and pull Monroe out of the COVID-19 crisis. His first adopted budget as Mayor included a modest tax decrease for residents. Dalina is committed to preserving 50% of Monroe as open space, and engaged in litigation against numerous developers seeking to build on Monroe land. Most recently, the Mayor was able to preserve 35 acres of Zimbicki farm as Monroe Township open space. Mayor Dalina also initiated a revitalization of Monroe’s Master Plan, and began a series of public input sessions in order to gauge how to best zone Monroe and utilize the Master Plan to protect Monroe from overcrowding and overdevelopment.
